The new pouches are made from plant-based plastic and are 100% recyclable. This is a huge improvement over traditional plastic bottles, which can take hundreds of years to decompose and often end up in landfills or oceans, contributing to pollution and harm to wildlife.
Plant-based plastics are a relatively new development in the world of sustainable packaging, but they offer many advantages over traditional petroleum-based plastics. They are made from renewable resources, such as sugarcane, corn, or potato starch, which can be grown and harvested on a continuous basis. This makes them a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastics, which are made from non-renewable resources.
Another advantage of these plant-based plastic pouches is that they are carbon negative. This means that the production of these pouches actually removes more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits. Our initial run of pouches generated a negative carbon footprint of 31 kg after taking production and logistics emissions into account.
We have a long way to go before we can become truly sustainable but we're excited to see where this commitment to sustainability takes us. Together, we can create a more sustainable world for future generations.
